Greenplay Furniture

by amy lee

greenplay1Greenplay, made in Chicago :), is all about creating children’s furniture that is fun, long lasting, and yes, healthy!  The furniture is made with regards to all aspects of the environment - sourcing, indoor air quality, shipping, and recycling.  One of the details that I like is that there are no glues used in the construction, but instead mechanical connections are used.  This is better not only when it comes to recycling, but also when we look at indoor air quality.  Also, there is no urea formaldehyde used in any of their products.  The furniture is made primarily of recycled HDPE (high density polyethylen) , which I am  typically against.  I love my wood!  Yet, there are no known health concerns with HDPE.

Karin Arens = recycled made beautiful.  Wood reclaimed from old country houses, cellars, branches, antique doors, reclaimed pallets - are all repurposed in her works to create pieces that are unique and that retain a sense of the past.katrin-arens-kitchen-jordi-canosakarin-natural-kids

Seed Organic Cradle

Breathable unbleached organic cotton with a natural latex breather hole mattress, what more could you want from a cradle?  No worries about polyurethane foam, chemical flame retardants, formaldehyde, anti-fungicides, pesticide-treated cotton, or other harmful chemicals.  It can be found for around $300. Not bad for an organic piece.   Find it at Modern Nursery.

BPA Free Sippy Cups

The latest chemical that has entered the press is BPA.  So now that you have gotten rid of all of your sippy cups and baby bottles, one great place to look for a safe alternative is Kleen Kanteen.  Always nice too that you can switch the tops and use the kanteens after your child is out of the sippy phase.  :) A great place to learn more about BPA is at the Environmental Working Groups Blog.
