Would this not make our cell phones more of a health concern?

Nokia recently developed a prototype charging system that would gain power from the ambient radiowaves that surround us. And we know that there are tons of radiowaves surrounding us.  Just see how many wireless networks you can pick up on your computer…drballz, hellokitty, harrypotterrules are just a few on mine.  Seriously?

The system is designed to pick up electromagnetic waves and turn this into electric current. This current would then be passed thru a circuit to charge the battery.  What they are working on now is being able to harness enough energy for the circuits and charging the battery to give it enough power in standby mode. It would still need another source of power.

The entire concept creates a phone that is constantly being charged and looking for radiowaves.  We already have enough health concerns with radiowaves today.  Right now our phones give off radio frequency of course when we talk on them and every few minutes to ping to the nearest cell phone tower (Even more if you have a 3G phone like the Iphone, which itself acts as an antenna for other nearby phones).  Now we might have cell phones that are always giving off radio frequency.  The good news is it looks like we have 3 to 5 years til they can get this to come to fruition.

Think big business is ever going to get serious about the health implications of the things that they create?  Granted this would save lots of energy and would be great for the planet.  Less power consumed equals a healthier planet.  But are we not trading one evil for another?

Knitting has been growing in popularity over the years, with knitting groups and stores popping up all over the country.  Not only is knitting incredible soothing, but it makes for a great afternoon hanging out with your girl friends.  Could this be why I have three great stores within 2 miles of me here in Chicago?!  The great news is that it is getting easier and easier to find beautiful organic yarns.
